Congratulations to Anna Young, 23, for being chosen to represent the Virginia Delegation at the Special Olympics USA Games 2022 in Orlando, Florida! Anna has been involved in the Special Olympics since she was eight and has participated in bowling, track and field, soccer, golf and bocce. The Special Olympics provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

They provide opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. They run training and competitions 365 days a year in 172 countries.

Anna was diagnosed with Myhre Syndrome in 2014, and when she is not working as a food service associate at a middle school, she enjoys cooking, exercising, travelling and spending time with her family. As often as she can, she takes arts & crafts, cooking, exercise and dance classes through her local Parks and Recreation Department. She loves to be busy and loves to be around people!

We’ll be cheering Anna on and if you want to learn more or get involved with the Special Olympics there are many opportunities from being an Athlete, Volunteer, Coach or Official.
