Dr Sofia Douzgou completed an MD with Honours in Medical Genetics in La Sapienza University Postgraduate School (Rome, Italy).
She has a Master's degree in Health Care Management (School of Economics, University of Piraeus, Greece). She was awarded a PhD in Dysmorphology Services by the Medical School of the University of Athens, Greece, with distinction.
She is a Senior Consultant in Medical Genetics, Haukeland University Hospital, Bergen, Norway.
She is an Honorary Consultant in Clinical Genetics at the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine and Honorary Senior Lecturer, Division of Evolution and Genomic Sciences at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.
She holds an FRCP expertise award of the Royal College of Physicians, London and a Clinical Excellence Award of the Manchester University Foundation NHS Trust.
Dr Douzgou acts as the Developmental Disorders’ Team Lead for the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine; Tele-Health Lead for ERN-ITHACA, a European Reference Network for Congenital Malformations and Intellectual Disability; Co-organizer of the Dysmorphology Workshops of the European Society of Human Genetics; Dysmorphology assessor for the Clinical Genetics external quality assessment; Member of the management group of the Minerva Initiative: a global clinical collaboration on identifiable patient data to avoid data siloing; Member of the Programme Committee for the European Conference on Rare Diseases & Orphan Products.
Dr Douzgou is motivated by possibilities to optimize the care for patients with rare genetic disorders (<1:2000) by bridging the gap between genomic findings and expert clinical care and is passionate about delivering and developing a high-quality clinical service in genetic syndromology. She has more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
